Journey planning
A practical way to check your route, interchange, travel time and ticket information before entering the station.
A smoother metro journey starts with checking the details that can change: the route, the interchange, the service notice and the ticket option. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) publishes journey-planning and passenger information on its official website. This guide explains how to use those sources and what to confirm before you travel.
Write down the station where you will enter and the station where you intend to leave. Then check the current DMRC network map and confirm the names of both stations. A station name is more reliable than remembering a line colour or a route from an old screenshot.
If the journey requires a change of line, identify the interchange station before you set out. At the station, follow the current platform signs and announcements. Station layouts and passenger arrangements can change, so use the signage displayed at the station rather than relying on a description from an old trip.
The DMRC website provides passenger information including network maps, station information, first- and last-train information, fare information and travel advisories. Check the relevant information near the time of your journey, especially when you are travelling early, late or during a period when the operator has published a notice.
A route map explains the network; it does not, by itself, confirm that every train is running to its usual pattern at the moment you travel. Read current notices and follow announcements from station staff.
DMRC publishes information about the ticket media it supports. The options described on its ticket page include smart cards, tourist cards, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and QR-code tickets. Availability, terms and the way a particular ticket is purchased or used can change.
Before travelling, check the current ticket guidance and the fare for your actual origin and destination. Do not rely on a price remembered from a previous journey or a screenshot that may be out of date. Keep the ticket or fare medium available for the station's entry and exit checks.
Journey planning does not finish at the platform. Allow time to reach the correct entrance, pass the fare gates, find the right platform and move through any interchange. If you are unfamiliar with a station, read its signs before following the crowd.
Keep clear of tactile paths and do not stop in doorways, at the top of stairs or in narrow circulation areas to check your phone. Move to a safe place before consulting directions.
Transit information is operational information. It can change after a guide is published. The linked DMRC pages and announcements at the station take priority over this summary. For another metro network, consult that network's own operator rather than assuming that Delhi Metro procedures apply everywhere.
Seatzo is a separate commuter-coordination service, not a route planner or a source of live train timings. If you use it during your journey, enter the coach identifier displayed on the coach you are actually travelling in. Seatzo derives the metro-line and train context from that identifier to show compatible offers. If the identifier is unclear or the train context does not look right, correct it before relying on a listing.
Seatzo offers are temporary and depend on another passenger choosing to list a seat. You can browse visible offers without a Connect Pass; a pass is required only when you choose to start a connection. A pass does not reserve or guarantee a seat, and an offer can disappear before you reach the other commuter. Do not change your route, rush through a station or move between coaches just to pursue a listing.
Seatzo is an independent commuter-coordination service. For its own connection rules, read How Seatzo Works and the Safety and Community Guidelines. DMRC signs, announcements and staff instructions always take priority during a journey.
